Designed by Felix O. Schlag, the obverse features the portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Meanwhile the reverse depicts Jefferson’s home, Monticello.
The 1950-D Jefferson Nickel is a key date in the series due to its comparatively low mintage. A mintage of 2,630,030 may sound high, until its compared with the 271,165,000 mintage of earlier coins such as the 1943-P.
